Baker Boyer receives National Charter, John Boyer is President
After Dorsey S. Baker died in 1888 and the bank received a federal charter as Baker Boyer National Bank in 1889, John F. Boyer was elected its first president—a title he retained until his own death in 1897, a month before his 73rd birthday. He also held many other titles, each noting his commitment to community building and education. He was elected Walla Walla County treasurer for six consecutive two-year terms. For 30 years he was a board of trustees member and treasurer of Whitman Seminary and College, elected to board chairman a few months before he died.
